This computer is one of the workstations in the Computational Mechanics
Laboratory. It is named after Archimedes of Syracuse(287-212 BC).
Archimedes (287-212 B.C) Archimedes was born in Syracuse Sicily and
was the son of an astronomer and was killed when the city was besieged
by the Romans. He was the greatest mathematician and engineer of Ancient
times. He was a student of Conon in Alexandria who in turn was a student
of Euclid. His fame is in part linked to "Archimedes' principle", by which
a body immersed in a liquid receives an upward thrust from the bottom towards
the top equal to the weight of the displaced liquid. (FLUID STATICS)
